Who or what is Dal Riata?

Thomas McGonigle

Thomas established Dál Riata, in 1995,  now recognised for providing first class facilitation, business coaching and project management to a wide range of organisations and businesses across many sectors. Thomas has an excellent reputation for his use of market intelligence and creative approach to facilitation of the themes of innovation and collaboration.

In the early years Thomas was one of the first Investors in People Advisors in Scotland and went Croppedon to qualify as an Associate Assessor carrying out assessments of the National Standard on behalf of Investors in People Scotland. As a natural progression he became an Assessor for the European Foundation Quality Model (EFQM) and acted as an Assessor for the Northern Ireland Quality Award.

Prior to establishing Dál Riata Thomas was based in London with Alpha Airports Group as Organisational Development and Training Manager. Thomas played an active role in the "culture change" taking place, part of which included the introduction of Investors in People to selected units within the Company. Prior to this he worked for Forte Hotels Plc as Training & Development Manager for three of the Companies 4 star West-end Hotels based at The Westbury, Mayfair.

Between 1986 and 1987 Thomas worked for the Hotel and Catering Training Board as Training Advisor carrying out activities from trainer training to small business development.

Between 1983 and 1986 he worked at the Peebles Hotel Hydro. During that period Thomas was Food & Beverage Manager for just under two years and Conference Manager for 18 months.

Madeleine O’Brien

Having previously worked as an Organisational Development Manager within the Scottish Health Service, Madeleine joined Dal Riata in 2002 where she has taken a lead role on organisational, team and individual development and coaching support programmes across public and private sector organisations.

She is passionate about the importance and impact of effective teamwork, leadership and MOB Picmanagement development, mindful always of the need to align this with the organisation’s vision and strategy. Furthermore her work reflects and blends in the concepts of personal resilience and responsibility, emotional intelligence and coaching using Neuro Linguistic Programming to ensure that an enabling impact is realised with those with whom she engages.

Madeleine’s background, initially in training consultancy within the hospitality and tourism sector, beginning as a consultant and then promoted to the role of Quality Development Manager has provided her with an excellent start to her career.

From there she has held positions such as Head of Management Development & Training to Organisational Development & Culture Change lead within the Scottish Health service.
